History
We have just celebrated our sixth Birthday.
As at October 2018, we have 42 members, ranging in age from 50 years to 80 plus, whose business and professional backgrounds include Chartered Accounting, Education, Retail, Defence, Government, finance and vehicle sales among many others, giving us a wealth of life experiences to share.
At a typical monthly meeting, we start with a Guest Speaker - past speakers have included the former Administrator John Hardy OAM; MLA Lia Finocchiaro (our Patron), health professionals, retirement specialists and numerous others, all of whom presented interesting topics.
Our meeting then breaks for a convivial morning tea (provided by Cazalys) and an opportunity to mingle and catch up with Probus friends.
After morning tea the President of the Club starts the proceedings with the induction of new members. Minutes of the previous meeting are presented and the Secretary reports on correspondence and miscellaneous administrative matters. This is followed by a brief Treasurer's Report on finances and accounts.
Next, we have several activity groups including Cinema, Gardening, Dining Out and Travel. The coordinators of these groups report on their respective portfolio before addressing any General Business.
In a recent survey, members were asked why they joined Probus. The overwhelming response was "Companionship", followed by the "Activities" then "Guest Speakers".
One member admitted joining to take advantage of the terrific Travel Insurance Scheme (it is excellent! - particularly for those with pre-existing health conditions). This person found that he enjoyed everything about the Club and is now an active member.
We hope that this brief description of our Probus Club meeting arouses your curiosity enough to encourage you to visit us - maybe even join!
We meet on the third Thursday each month at Cazalys Palmerston Club at 10.00am for 10.30am start.
We hope this piques your interest!
