Port Darwin Visit

On Friday 13 November a group of 42 members and friends of Probus visited the Port of Darwin on East Arm.
Briefed by General Manager, Peter Dummett, Probarians learned about the administration and operations of the Port and were treated to morning tea.
Following this our visitors enjoyed a bus tour of the Port accompanied Mr. Drummett who gave an overview of the Port operations.
Some interesting Port of Darwin facts;
It operates from three locations, the main wharf on East Arm, the Stokes Hill Wharf (Cruise Terminal and Wharf) and Cullen Bay.
The Port is a key support hub for Australia's offshore oil and gas fields in the Arafura Sea, Timor Sea and waters off the coast of Western Australia.
Across its various wharves the Port sees imports and export of dry bulk cargo such as mineral ores, live cattle, containers and cruise passengers.
As with all good outings, the excursion finished with a scrumptious lunch at the Coolalinga Tavern, a popular local pub not far south of Darwin, down the Stuart Highway.
