Walking, Walking, Walking
Those of us who were at last month's meeting will remember Allan Mitchell's presentation on his European Peace Walk in July this year.
At the end of
the 19 day walk through parts of Hungary, Austria, Croatia, Slovenia and Italy he had walked over 450km.
Allan is shown here with Julie Leach.
On his return, and in midAugust, Allan then headed out on the comparatively short 5 day, 65km Jatbula Trail from Nitmiluk to Edith Falls, near Katherine, a walk he had completed three times before.
Early on Day 2, Allan slipped on some rocks and fell heavily to the ground.
Limping on a further 9km to the next campsite, he realised any further walking was out of the question. Nothing more to do than call for a helicopter evacuation back to the start.
CT scans revealed minor fractures to the right hip.
So for any prospective walkers who were spurred on by Allan's talk, remember it's not all about the length!
